What’s New & Queer on TV #25: Glitter & Gold: Ice Dancing, Madam Beja
Gay couple and trans representation in Madam Beja, gay athletes featured in Glitter and Gold
Welcome to the weekly post where I discuss new additions to my 2025 & 2026 queer streaming guides.

Disclaimer: All the shows listed below came out about one month ago because I've noticed that's how long it usually takes me to be able to confidently verify whether a show has queer representation. I'm not able to watch everything, but I'll only include shows that have proven queer characters as verified online through reputable sources.
Glitter & Gold: Ice Dancing • Season 1

Netflix • Sports Documentary • 🇺🇸 United States • Ended
Queer-o-meter: 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Type of queer representation: Gay men
I would have been disappointed to see a documentary about ice dancing with no gay representation. Thankfully, Glitter & Gold delivers. I mean, with that name, it kind of had to. The docu includes fan favorite Paul Poirier who uses his Olympic-level platform to celebrate queer visibility. It also features another gay athlete named Guillaume Cizeron and covers controversies surrounding him and involving accusations of abuse.

Madam Beja • Season 1

HBO Max • Period Drama • 🇧🇷 Brazil • Fate Unknown
Queer-o-meter: 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Type of queer representation: Trans woman and a gay relationship between 2 men
The show is a period drama / telenovela that focused on a group of women outcasts. The show features a few queer storylines. Fortunato Sampaio is a gay man living a double life who finally gives in to his desires during a steamy garden encounter in recent episodes. Meanwhile, Severina is a trans woman living at the Chácara do Jatobá, bringing a much-needed historical trans perspective to the show as she finds safety and a "found family" in Beja’s circle of outcasts.
