What’s New in Queer TV #6: Are You My First? & Rivers of Fate
A gay host for a very straight dating show and a gay son helping his mother only to meet a tragic fate

Welcome to the weekly post where I discuss new additions to my 2025 queer streaming guide.

Disclaimer: All the shows listed below came out about one month ago because I've noticed that's how long it usually takes me to be able to confidently verify whether a show has queer representation. I'm not able to watch everything, but I'll only include shows that have proven queer characters as verified online through reputable sources.
Are You My First? • Season 1

Queer-o-meter: 🏳️🌈
The singles participating in the show are all straight, but the host, Colton Underwood, is openly gay. This doesn't really affect the show itself, but it's worth mentioning in this list.
My thoughts on it: I wish we had more gay dating shows. If anything, the queer ultimatum and the latest season of Below Deck have proven just how messy queer relationships can be. We deserve more than just a gay host!
Rivers of Fate • Season 1

Queer-o-meter: 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Mariangel's son, Guilherme, is gay and has a boyfriend called Zé. They are both positive characters in the show and support the women at the center of the story. Unfortunately, I found a comment on Reddit that indicates that at least one of them dies in typical "bury your gays" fashion...
My thoughts on it: I haven't watched the show, so this is purely based on the little snippets I could find online. Guilherme's character sounds well-written, although he's definitely more of a side character. Outside of the queer representation, the show sounds like a typical revenge thriller.
